That is why it’s always a great idea to pack a few different types of camper games that are good for a little healthy competition.
The best travel games are compact or travel-sized versions of your favourite classics, that are great for when you’re stuck inside and they also take up minimal space in your van!
The games should be easy to play, have minimal setup, be travel-friendly, and be the perfect escape from screen time!
Classic Games & Board Games For Camping
You can’t go past the classics when it comes to game night! These traditional games and family favourites are the best games for a reason…tried and true and perfect for RV living!
1. Triominos
- Players: 2-4
- Age: 7 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Triominos is a great addition to your family game night because it is easy to learn.
Players score points by just matching numbers on the three-sided piece. This game is very similar to Dominos, but with an exciting twist, since you have 3 corners to line up on the board.
We always take this game when we do campervan trips, leaving the box at home and putting all the pieces in a small bag.
2. Bananagrams
- Players: 2-8
- Age: 7 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Bananagrams is a must-have travel game favourite. It comes in a fun banana-shaped bag and is more compact than other board games making it a great choice for travelling.
It is also educational and can help your kids learn to spell words. It’s a little like Scrabble except you’re building words out of your own pile, rather than waiting for others to take their next turn.
This is perfect for 7 and up years old and can be played by 1-8 players.
3. Sequence
- Players: 2-12
- Age: 7 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Sequence is a fast-paced fantastic game that has cards and chips with the goal of getting 5 in a row – or a sequence. This is a fantastic strategy game that can be played individually or in 2 teams.
My parents live full-time in a bus and this is one of the games they most love playing since it’s perfect for the 2 of them but also great when family or friends come to visit.
The only negative is the box is a bit larger than some of the other games on the list so it does take up a little more room.
4. Scrabble
- Players: 2-12
- Age: 7 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Scrabble is a classic word game that is great for challenging the mind and can also be an educational game for younger kids who are growing their vocabulary.
You score points by building words off other words on the Scrabble board with special squares on the board worth higher points than others, such as a double or triple word score.
Like Sequence, Scrabble does typically come in a larger box if you’ve already got the game at home, but you can get compact travel versions too!
5. Jenga
- Players: 1 or more
- Age: 6 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Jenga is the classic game of balance, as you carefully take turns pulling out the hardwood blocks without crashing the stack.
You do need a steady surface for this one so it might be a good option for an outdoor picnic table rather than your jiggly RV table!
Of course, if you have the space, there’s also giant Jenga to play outdoors too.
6. Yahtzee
- Players: 2 or more
- Age:
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Yahtzee is the classic dice game that is perfect for travel! This compact game can bring hours of fun as you roll the dice and score the best combos to boost up your points.
This game is a good option for older kids, teens and adults as it is a little trickier, but younger kids can still join in with some help since everything is visible to all players.
7. Rummikub
- Players: 2 to 4 players
- Age: 8 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Rummikub is another family favourite and our eldest always wants to play this when she visits her grandparents. Best of all, it’s a compact option for travel.
This Rummy tile game involves putting consecutive tiles in order and colour, with 3 or more needed to place them on the table. It’s a great strategy game.
8. Connect 4
- Players: 2
- Age: 6 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
The classic strategy game of Connect 4 has always been a great choice for travel. It’s light, compact and quick to play. And you can get some cute travel-sized Connect 4 games too.
We have a mini version that fits into our kids’ travel activity bags when we travel.
Family Card Games For Camping Trips
There’s no doubt that a card game is a great choice for RV games since they are compact and light. Thankfully there are some pretty awesome camping card games for families to play.
9. UNO
- Players: 2 to 10 players
- Age: 7 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
UNO is a classic game that is fast-paced and sure to bring on a bit of competitive gameplay.
Each of you needs to draw a handful of cards and then place one on the pile, if you have a suitable option – the same colour, same number or a specialty card. If not, draw a new card and hope you don’t get hit with a draw 4 from one of your opponents.
When you’ve got one card left in your hand, you must declare UNO for the chance to win the round.
There are loads of fun variations of UNO these days if you want a change from the classic – UNO Flip or UNO All Wild are popular choices.
10. Monopoly Deal
- Players: 2 to 5 players
- Age: 8 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
While you might not want to bring your classic Monopoly board with you, Monopoly Deal is a super fun card game that goes a lot quicker than the classic game.
It comes with property cards, rent, house and hotel cards and just like with the traditional game, you need to complete property sets. Be the first player to collect 3 complete property card sets to win. You only need 15 minutes for a round.
11. Exploding Kittens
- Players: 2 to 5 players
- Age: 7 years and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Exploding Kittens is a wildly popular family card game – it’s essentially a card version of Russian Roulette. A little like UNO but instead avoiding the ‘explosions’ that will have you instantly out of the game.
There are quite a few expansion packs to enhance your gameplay too.
12. Taco Vs Burrito
- Players: 2 to 4 players
- Age: 6 years and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Taco Vs Burrito brings a ‘clean’ food fight to your family game night. You build the most valuable meal from your cards to win the round.
One of the coolest things about this card game is that it was created by a 7-year-old so you know it’s got kids in mind. You can also finish a round in under 15 minutes for quick game breaks.
13. Kids Against Maturity
- Players: 4+
- Age: 10 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Kids Against Maturity is a card game that will have you laughing from start to finish. Much like the adults-only Cards Against Humanity, it brings silly humour but with age-appropriate humour suitable for kids.
There are over 600 cards and 40000 possible combinations to keep gameplay entertaining for hours.
14. Throw Throw Burrito
- Players: 2 to 6
- Age: 7 years and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
The team from Exploding Kittens have taken fun games to a new level with this combination of card game and dodgeball. Throw Throw Burrito is a favourite for my niece and her hubby who are doing a big lap of Australia.
You do need a fair amount of space to play this one since you essentially have to launch squishy foam burritos at each other to steal points. Hilarious!
Best RV Games For Young Kids
Not all games are suited to your younger campers so here are some fun campervan games just for younger kids (that the rest of the family can join in with too, of course).
15. Dominoes
- Players: 2 to 4
- Age: 8 and up
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
This is one of the RV games that is great for younger children. It’s easier to understand than Triominos and is great for practising matching skills.
Build your tiles onto the existing tiles until all the tiles from the middle pile are used up.
16. Alphabet Bingo
- Players: 2 to 6 players
- Age: 4+
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
Alphabet Bingo is a fun game for younger kids to play that can help them practice their letters. Bingo can be fun for all ages though, so mum and dad can play too!
17. Memory Matching Game
- Players: 4
- Age: 3+
- Where To Buy: Get it on AMAZON
A memory-matching game is a great option for a game night with much younger children. There are so many fun options for matching games where they try and remember where the matching token or card is to create pairs.
Keep going until all the cards are paired up and the winner is the one with the most pairs.

Tips For Choosing Games To Play In A Van
When it comes to choosing the perfect camping games or caravan games, here are some things to look for:
- Portability: Small boxes and bags are ideal so they won’t take much space.
- Minimal Set up: Avoid bringing games that require a lot of setups or need a lot of space to play. Games that are quick to start and finish are ideal for travel.
- Weight: Consider picking lighter games that you can easily carry anywhere.
- Age- Appropriate: Bring games that are suitable for the age range of your family so everyone can join in.
- Versatility: Choose a campervan game that can be played both outdoors and indoors for different weather conditions.
- Durability: Camping games that are durable and can withstand travel are worth investing in so you don’t need to replace them often.
- Multi-Function Games: Choose a game that has a different purpose to reduce the need to carry multiple games.
