Travel Gear

The Ultimate South East Asia Packing List

We like to be organised when we travel so investing in the right gear is a priority for our family adventures. Here are some of our favourite products. You also might like to check out our Amazon store for more ideas.

As a family of four, we are pretty exceptional at packing compact when we travel. We often only take 2 suitcases between the 4 of us. But the key to organised packing is good quality packing cubes!

And of course, we want to stay connected when we travel which means we need our devices well charged with a portable charging bank for those big days exploring, and a multiport universal adaptor for back at our accommodation.

We almost always take an iPad when we travel. It’s far lighter than a laptop and it means we can work on the go when we need to.

When travelling with kids, sometimes a little bit of screentime is okay after a big day out, just to help them chill out with something familiar. Load it up with some educational apps and videos before you leave home!

If you love capturing photographic memories of your adventures like we do, it is worthwhile investing in some quality camera equipment. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get great photos and videos though.

You would be surprised how much of our video and photo content is captured via iPhone. However, we also love pulling out the proper camera equipment too, when we have the time to stop and take in the view at a slower pace.

We use a Nikon DSLR camera with dual lenses, although I’m quite partial to the 50mm lens.

We also have a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone and a GoPro Hero for capturing video footage. Sometimes a point and shoot digital camera is a nice alternative though, and we sometimes take one of these instead of the bulky DSLR and lenses.

There are certain products that have made our family travels a lot easier than had we been without them. Easier for us and our kids. Some of these things we couldn’t be without when they were really little and others are just things we know to never travel without even when they are getting older.

Baby carriers allow you to travel hands-free and keep your baby or toddler close, especially in countries where footpaths are hard to find.

Otherwise our favourite travel stroller, the Mountain Buggy Nano sure did make our European adventures easier. Especially since it folds down small enough to fit in the overhead luggage compartment on a plane!

For the bigger kids, having your own kid-sized headphones means no struggles onboard planes with oversized one size fits all options.

Depending on where you are travelling, not everywhere will have a high chair available so a fabric over chair option is perfect since they hardly take up any room!

There are certain items that I won’t leave home without, that may not be travel essentials but they are diverse and help us stay comfortable when away from home.

I pretty much live in my Sanuk Yoga Sling Sandals all year round back home and they are great for beach and day wear as they are just so darn comfy! Their claim to fame is soles made of yoga mat so it’s like walking on clouds! Don’t laugh… I have 4 pairs!

We typically take hard case style suitcases when we travel internationally as they are more durable and I love having the ability to divide our luggage into each half of the suitcase. This is perfect when we want to just pack light and take one case between us – half for us, half for the kids!

Plus a crossover day bag for keeping valuables close when out and about!

For travel inspiration, I love Lonely Planet guide books and usually read them digitally via my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Working out the best option to stay connected while travelling in each different country can be complicated, especially if you are visiting more than one location. The Skyroam Solis global wifi is a perfect option!

Unlimited data in over 100 different countries. Rather than worrying about local SIM cards, we use Facebook Messenger for voice and video calls to stay connected with family and friends.
