If you grew up loving the Toy Story movies as much as I did, you might have dreamed as a child of having a room just like Andy’s. Well, now you can… at least for a few days – by staying at the Toy Story Hotel in Tokyo Disney Resort.

We stayed at this epic-themed Tokyo Disneyland hotel for 3 nights and want to share our experience with you. This is our honest and unsponsored Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel review, which we hope answers all your questions if you’re planning a trip to Tokyo Disneyland soon!

Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel Review

When it comes to visiting Tokyo Disneyland Resort, you’ve got a whole lot of options to consider.

Do you stay at a Disneyland hotel? Do you stay at a partner hotel? Do you book a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package? Do you just stay elsewhere in Tokyo and transit each day?

Sheesh… overwhelming, indeed! These were all questions we had when we were planning our first visit to Japan.

We wanted our first Japan trip to be easy and in the end, that meant we decided to book a Disney Vacation Package and stay at one of the official Tokyo Disney Resort Hotels.

There are several official Disney hotels to choose from. We chose the Toy Story Hotel for 2 main reasons:

  • It’s one of the cheapest official Disney hotels
  • We LOVE Toy Story!

Here are some quick facts about the Toy Story Hotel:

  • It opened in April 2022 making it one of the newest Tokyo Disney Resort hotels.
  • It’s the 5th Disney Hotel in Japan, focused entirely on the fun Toy Story universe.
  • The entire hotel is inspired by Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story, with oversized props, playful decor, and vibrant colours to make guests feel like they’re part of Andy’s toy collection.
  • The hotel has 595 rooms (575 standard rooms & 20 superior rooms).

Location

The Toy Story Hotel is located within the Tokyo Disney Resort area, making access to both theme parks incredibly convenient.

The Disney Resort Line monorail is a quick and fun way to get to the parks, with a stop directly at the hotel. It is 300 yen for a one-way ticket for adults or 150 yen for kids. You can also get a day pass for 700 yen.

  • Distance to Tokyo Disneyland: Just a couple of stops away on the Disney Resort Line.
  • DisneySea Access: Equally close, perfect for splitting your time between the two parks.
  • Proximity to Ikspiari: The hotel is also a quick monorail ride from Ikspiari, the resort’s shopping and dining complex.
  • Train Line Access: The Disney Resort Line monorail connects to JR Keiyos Line Maihama Station to reach the airport or other parts of Tokyo.
  • Narita Airport: It is approximately a 1-hour drive to Narita Airport
  • Haneda Airport: It is approximately a 25-minute drive to Haneda Airport.

Travel Tip: One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reach the hotel is by taking the Airport Limousine Bus from Narita or Haneda Airport.

Check-In Process

As soon as you arrive on the hotel property, you’re going to be excited! There is so much theming inside and outside of the hotel.

The check-in desk is straight ahead and to the left as you first walk through the doors and we found that there was usually always a cast member to help direct you where you needed to go.

The check-in time is from 3 pm and on the day of your check-in, they will go through all the essentials with you and photocopy your passports (as is standard practice in Japan).

Our check-in took a little longer as we had a Disney Vacation Package starting the next morning and were able to get all of our tickets for this the night before.

Hotel Theming

Love the wallpaper and footprint carpet!

This was our first time staying in a completely themed hotel and this was part of why we wanted to write this review. If you have kids (or even if you don’t), staying in a themed hotel is a really special experience to have at least once in your lifetime.

This hotel is next level on theming! The entire hotel is like stepping into Andy’s bedroom, with larger-than-life props and immersive decor that instantly transport you into the world of Woody, Buzz, and the gang.

From the giant models in Slinky Dog Park at the front, to the huge pickup stick poles, rooftop board game and race cars driving around the roof edges. It’s just soooooo cool and there is so much to look at.

Best of all, the theming is everywhere.

There are two sections of the hotel – you can either stay in the Buzz section or the Woody section. Because we accidentally booked 2 different room types for our first-night stay compared to our Disney Vacation Package, we got to stay in both.

The wallpaper, carpet and furnishings are all themed depending on which half of the hotel you are accommodated in. But the best part is the rooms, of course!

Toy Story Hotel Rooms

Twin beds in standard room.

The rooms at Toy Story Hotel are designed to make you feel like you are staying in Andy’s room, with decor that mirrors the film.

The Standard Rooms are family-friendly and can sleep up to four guests comfortably, with two ‘double beds’. They are Japanese double beds though which are not much bigger than an Australian King Single. I think these are called Twin Beds in some parts of the world.

However, most rooms also have a trundle bed and some also have a hidden bed inside the TV cabinet that folds out.

Is this the coolest TV ever? I think so!

Every detail, from the wallpaper to the bed linens, screams Toy Story. Our room had replicas of Andy’s famous cloud wallpaper, a giant etch-o-sketch television and Woody-themed bedding.

Even the bathroom has theming with puzzle pieces wallpaper, decorated tiles and a cute light-up mirror. Plus it has a separate shower and bath with a separate toilet as well. The bath was designed with kids in mind, with playful, toy-themed touches throughout.

One thing to note though is that the rooms are small – this is fairly typical in Japan and it meant that there wasn’t a lot of space to open suitcases.

If you’re looking for something more special, the Superior Rooms offer additional space and upgraded amenities, still maintaining that fun, toy-filled atmosphere.

Guest Amenities

In each of the standard rooms, there is a small refrigerator, an electric kettle with tea and coffee, an ice bucket and a water jug.

In the bathroom, there is a hairdryer. You will also have your toiletry amenities restocked each day. This includes toothbrushes, toothpaste, face washers and a mini amenities pack with cotton buds and a hairband.

They also provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower.

The hotel also has a laundry room, large seating area in the main foyer and even a home delivery service to post things back to your house (and save on excess luggage charges).

PJs & Slippers

Wearing the Buzz Pjs

While this isn’t the case everywhere, many hotels in Japan will provide Pyjamas and slippers for you to wear during your stay. The Toy Story Hotel does this better!

You get to wear Buzz Lightyear PJs during your stay. They are a waffle material and quite comfy to wear. They put both medium and large sizes in our room, but you can request other sizes.

They also provide you with a pair of Toy Story slippers each. These are very basic but you can take them home for a fun souvenir. The best part is that one says “Andy” on the bottom, just like Woody’s boot in the Toy Story movies.

If you are staying with kids, they don’t provide kid-sized PJs and slippers in the room. You can request these at the Guest Services counter. We did this for our kids but the sizes were quite small and our eldest daughter definitely did not fit the slippers. Their PJs are more of a towelling fabric and still cute!

You can’t keep any of the pyjamas but if you love them, apparently you can buy them in the hotel store.

Dining Options

Breakfast buffet from Lotso’s

While Toy Story Hotel doesn’t have a wide variety of dining options compared to some of the deluxe hotels, you will find Lotso Garden Cafe which is a buffet restaurant that opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The decor is inspired by Lotso from Toy Story 3, with pinks and greens throughout the space.

It features a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine with cute themed touches, like strawberry-stamped pancakes (because Lotso smells like strawberries) and Lotso pudding.

We didn’t love the variety of the buffet breakfast. Many of the Western options weren’t typical breakfast foods.

Guest Tip: When you take your tray to the staff members at the cleaning trolley, they will give you a Lotso sticker.

If you’d rather have something quick and easy, for lighter bites or snacks, the hotel also has a convenience store on-site, stocked with everything from bentos to Disney-themed snacks and souvenirs. The convenience store at the Toy Story Hotel stays open until midnight each night.

A Life-Sized Playground

One of the most striking features of the Tokyo Toy Story Hotel is the two outdoor areas filled with giant Toy Story character models and playful decor. Slinky Dog Park is at the front of the hotel, with a second area upstairs, Toy Friends Square, to the rear of the hotel.

From the moment you step outside, it feels like you’ve been shrunk down to the size of a toy, just like in Andy’s backyard. These larger-than-life installations make for fantastic photo opportunities and are a delight for kids and adults alike.

It’s essentially an Instagrammers paradise!

So not entirely a playground in the traditional sense, but still a lot of fun for the kids to explore the different toys and little movie Easter eggs everywhere.

They have 24/7 front gate security to prevent non-guests from coming to take photos. We found this a little funny, but it’s not surprising. If you’re coming back from the parks at night, don’t be surprised if the pathway attendant asks to see your room keycard.

Gift Planet

Gift Planet gift store

The on-site gift shop at the Tokyo Toy Story Hotel, named Gift Planet is full of Disney and Pixar Merch, including exclusive merchandise just for the hotel guests.

  • Exclusive Hotel Merchandise: One of the highlights of Gift Planet is the exclusive Toy Story Hotel merchandise. You’ll find items such as plush toys, T-shirts, mugs, and keychains featuring your favourite characters from the films, many of which are only available at the hotel. The designs often feature the hotel’s branding, making these souvenirs extra special.
  • Character-Themed Goodies: In addition to Toy Story items, the shop stocks a range of Disney-themed merchandise, including popular items from Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea like Minnie Mouse Ears and hats.
  • Practical Purchases: Forgot something? No problem! Gift Planet also carries travel essentials like toiletries, snacks, and even Disney-themed ponchos and umbrellas for those rainy days at the parks.
  • Snack Selection: The shop also offers a variety of delicious, themed snacks that you can take back to your room or bring home as souvenirs. From Disney-shaped cookies to limited-edition treats, there’s plenty to tempt your taste buds.

If you are staying here as part of your Disney Vacation Package, you can also redeem your exclusive gift vouchers here too. We did that so we didn’t have to worry about fitting it into our Disney Park days.

What We Loved About Toy Story Hotel

Heading into the Buzz Wing

There was a lot to love about this hotel! For our first themed hotel experience, it was so much fun and compared to official Disney hotel prices elsewhere in the world, the accommodation rates were reasonable.

You can book the hotel directly and buy your park tickets separately, or you can book a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package and choose the Toy Story Hotel as your accommodation (if available). This is what we did.

Here’s what we loved about our stay:

  • The attention to detail and theming
  • Easy access to both Tokyo Disney Parks
  • More affordable than the other Official Disney Resort Hotels
  • Free luggage storage on check-out day
  • Cute PJs to wear and slippers to take home
  • Modern and comfortable rooms
  • Separate toilet and bathroom with shower room
  • Happy Entry into Tokyo Disneyland
  • Air-conditioning in rooms and all guest areas
  • Hidden alcove bed in some rooms
  • Late check-out at midday

What We Didn’t Love About Toy Story Hotel

Let’s be honest, it’s hard to find things to dislike about this hotel. It’s a really fun place to stay, but nothing is perfect.

Here’s what we did not love about our stay:

  • The pillows were tiny (about half the size of a standard pillow)
  • Not much space in the rooms for luggage
  • Higher price point than a non-Disney hotel
  • There’s no pool – while we didn’t have much time at the hotel itself, it was HOT so a swim would have been nice!

Why Stay At Official Disney Hotels?

There are some incredible hotels and resorts located in the Tokyo Bay area that would be equally convenient for getting to and from the theme parks each day. But there are a few reasons to choose the official hotels.

Happy Entry

Happy Entry allows hotel guests to enter an applicable park 15 minutes earlier than other guests. This depends on the hotel. For Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel and Tokyo Celebration Hotel, this is only applicable to Tokyo Disneyland.

Fantasy Springs Hotel, Disneyland Hotel, Ambassador Hotel and DisneySea Hotel Miracosta have Happy Entry for either Tokyo Disney Park. This is subject to change though, but the early entry allowed us to fit so much into the first hour of our Disneyland day.

Purchase Park Tickets

You also can purchase park tickets during your stay at an official Disney hotel, regardless of whether the park is ‘sold out’ on the official Tokyo Disney Resort website.

You can also buy your Tokyo Disneyland tickets online here

Other Accommodation Near Tokyo Disney Resort

If you’re still not sold on how awesome this hotel is, there are plenty of other hotel options nearby, including both the official Disney Resort hotels and partner hotels located nearby.

Some of the hotels have direct access to the theme parks! One day we’d love to stay at one of those. Especially Hotel MiraCosta with a view over the water and nightly boat show.

Here are the other official hotel options:

  • Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel (exclusive park access)
  • Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
  • Disney Ambassador Hotel
  • Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta (exclusive park access)
  • Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel

Non-official hotel options:

There is a free shuttle bus to take you to the Tokyo Disney Resort Line station for each of these partner hotels.

Our Toy Story Hotel Review: Do We Recommend It?

green alien statue in toy story hotel tokyo.

Heck yes! This hotel was so much fun to stay at and I would recommend it to anyone who has kids or anyone who is a big kid at heart who loves the Toy Story franchise. As 2 adults who were kids in the 90s, this was definitely us!

Our kids aren’t huge Toy Story fans but they loved it too. There is just so much attention to detail that makes it really special.

Plus the fact that it’s still a new hotel really, so everything is modern and comfortable.

Best of all, the fact that this hotel has cheaper prices than most of the other Disney Hotels is pretty cool, considering it is a completely themed hotel and a newer hotel too!
