If you’re planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland and want to stay on-site without spending a fortune, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is the perfect choice. It’s the more affordable of the three official Disney hotels at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and it puts you right in the heart of everything.
We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our Hong Kong stay, since most of our plans were located on Lantau Island. While it’s not the most luxurious hotel we’ve ever stayed in, it was exactly what we needed for a Disney trip. Here’s our honest review.

Is Hong Kong Disneyland Hollywood Hotel Worth It?
Yes, for the purpose of visiting Hong Kong Disneyland, it absolutely is. The location is perfect, the free shuttle service makes park days easy, and the theming makes it a good base for a Disney trip. It’s a basic hotel at heart, but it does everything it needs to do for the purpose you’re there for.
And if you’re a Marvel fan like me, it has Marvel-themed rooms and a Marvel bar and restaurant.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel Review
When we were planning our Hong Kong stay, the choice of on-site hotel came down to budget pretty quickly.
We were just going to do one or two nights at the hotel for our day at Hong Kong Disneyland, but in the end, it made sense to book all 5 days there.
Hong Kong Disneyland has three official hotels.
Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is a fair bit more expensive. Disney Explorer Lodge is in the middle. And Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is the entry-level option, and the lower price point was a big part of why we chose it.
We also stayed here right after spending a night at The Venetian in Macau which is known for its luxury.
That said, “entry level” at a Disney hotel still means theming, magic touches and staff who go above and beyond. It’s not a bare-bones budget choice but it’s just the most affordable way to stay close to Disneyland.
The convenience is having a free shuttle bus to and from Disneyland and the MRT station throughout the day. So much easier than coming back to a hotel late at night after a huge day in the park.
A note on renovations: External renovations were underway during our stay, mostly on the outside of the building. It didn’t have any real impact on our time at the hotel, we barely noticed it once we were inside, but worth knowing in case the exterior looks a bit patchy in our photos. In 2026, the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is also getting major refurbishments.

Location
The location is the most important thing about this resort. It sits within Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Lantau Island, and getting to and from the park couldn’t be easier.
Free shuttle to the park and MRT: The hotel runs a free shuttle bus that loops between the hotel and Hong Kong Disneyland. The MTR station is literally right next to the park, so you’re covered whether you’re heading to Disney or into the city.
Getting into the city: It’s straightforward. One stop on the Disney Resort Line brings you to the MTR, then you transfer and you’re connected to the rest of Hong Kong. We visited Victoria Peak on one of our non-Disney days and getting there from the hotel was easy, no headaches, no complicated transfers.
The Disneyland Resort Line train is also sooooo cute!
Lantau Island as a whole is less developed than other parts of Hong Kong. There’s no Disney Town equivalent here as you’d find at other Disney parks around the world.
The surrounding area doesn’t have much in the way of shops or supermarkets. That’s the main trade-off for being on the resort. For a Disney trip it’s perfect, but if you’re hoping to duck out for groceries you will be disappointed.
This is one of the biggest negatives about staying on Lantau Island.
- Distance to Hong Kong Disneyland: 650 metres or a few minutes on the shuttle bus
- MTR access: Free shuttle to the MTR station and one stop on the Disney Resort Line then connect to the main network
- Getting to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon: Easy, we found it very manageable for day trips into the city

Check-In
Our check-in experience was quick and easy. The bags were taken by the concierge upon arrival to save having to lug them around.
They had an English speaking attendance but all of the staff had relatively good English skills.
Hotel Theming
The Hollywood golden age theme runs throughout the common areas, corridors and public spaces. Think vintage film references, classic Hollywood décor and a colour palette that feels warm and cinematic without going over the top.
Where the theming really comes into its own is the room choice.
You can book into either a Marvel-themed room or a Mickey and Friends-themed room, and the theming extends to the whole floor rather than just individual rooms, so your corridor and surrounding area will match your choice.
We of course stayed in a Marvel-themed room and to be honest, I picked this hotel partly for that reason before realising it was also the cheapest option. I am a Marvel nerd… big time.
The decor is subtle. It’s more like murals, themed bedding and subtle decor.
The gardens around the hotel are lovely, well-kept and a nice place to walk around when you’re not at the park. There are hidden Mickeys scattered throughout.
Our Room
We stayed in a Marvel room on the top floor of the hotel.
The rooms are basic by Disney hotel standards, but basic in this context means clean, comfortable and everything you actually need for a holiday focused on the theme park.
It’s not going to give you the wow factor of the Tokyo Toy Story Hotel where every single surface is themed within an inch of its life, but it’s pleasant and it does the job well.
- Comfortable beds (pillows were okay, nothing exceptional, but fine)
- TV that you can connect your own Disney+ or other streaming services
- A small fridge, and we do mean small
- Small table and stools
- Hanging space & drawers
- Combined bath and shower
- Coffee maker (more on why this became very important shortly)
- Air conditioning
Room Amenities
Toiletries provided include soap, shampoo and conditioner. The basics, but not much beyond that.
You also get slippers, which in our case were Avengers-themed ones. These are complimentary, and you get to take them home for a souvenir.
Dining Options
The hotel has two restaurants, and the price gap between them and a cup of noodles from a convenience store is… significant.
There’s no minibar stocked with snacks, no convenience store on-site. This is the thing worth knowing before you arrive. There is no supermarket anywhere near the resort. Lantau Island doesn’t have that kind of infrastructure around the Disney precinct.
On two of our nights, dinner was cup noodles made with boiling water from the coffee maker in our room. We are not ashamed of this thrifty tip.
We are, however, recommending that you either come with snacks or budget more generously for on-site dining on your non-park days.
The Ink & Plate Pixar Buffet Restaurant
There’s a Pixar-themed buffet restaurant which looked popular every time we walked past.
We didn’t try it as the price for a family of four was eye-watering, but if you’re going to splash out on one meal at the hotel, this seems to be the one people go for.
You can see why from the outside: the theming is fun and it’s clearly a proper sit-down experience.
The Archivist Marvel Restaurant and Bar
We did make it to the Marvel-themed restaurant for our final dinner and it was absolutely worth it. Me totally geeking out… of course!
The food was delicious and the Marvel theming in the food and bar itself was the kind of thing that makes you feel like a kid again, even when you’re technically a responsible adult.
I had a Super Soldier Serum cocktail that came with a flashing fake ice cube. Our food arrived with chocolate Thor hammers.
Is it expensive? Yes. Did we regret it? Not even slightly. If you’re Marvel fans, and we very much are, this is the dinner to book.
We got the huge meat platter to share and followed it with the Asgardian Cheat Day dessert which consisted of 3 different chocolate desserts. Soooo good!
The Pool
The pool is large, which is great. The catch is that it gets extremely busy on weekends, so if you’re visiting on a Saturday or Sunday and want any chance of actually swimming, get there early.
It’s open until 10 pm, which is a nice perk for a late-night swim after a long day at the park, and the crowds thin out later in the evening.
The waterslide is on the slower side, more suited to younger kids than thrill-seekers, but the inflatable tubes they provide for the pool are a fun touch.
There are a reasonable number of pool lounges but they do fill up during the busy periods.
Things To Do At The Hotel
There’s more to keep you occupied around the resort than we expected.
Kids’ bike track: There’s a little bike track around the hotel grounds with a couple of small trikes to borrow. More of a toddler/young kid thing, but cute.
Playground: There is a playground down the back and grassy areas to run around.
Kids Activities: There are organised family and kids activities at each of the 3 Disney hotels including movies, craft activities and character meet and greets.
Coastal walking track: The back of the resort has an entrance to a walking track that runs behind the hotels along the waterfront. We didn’t do this but could be a nice wind-down for an afternoon or early morning exercise.
The gardens: They are lovely and well-maintained. Worth a slow wander if you have time between park days.
The Gift Shop
The gift shop has a great variety of Hong Kong Disneyland merchandise, more than we expected for a hotel shop rather than a park shop. Worth a browse, particularly for anything resort-exclusive.
I got myself an Avengers Hong Kong Disneyland shirt, and I am pretty sure it was cheaper than it was in the park store.
What We Loved About Disney’s Hollywood Hotel
- Free shuttle to the park and MTR running all day
- Reasonable price for an official Disneyland hotel
- Easy access to the city despite being on Lantau Island
- Marvel restaurant dinner had delicious food!
- The theming choice (Marvel or Mickey) is a nice touch, particularly the floor-wide approach
- Swimming pool – this was something we found crazy in Japan when almost no hotels had pools!
- Lovely gardens and walking track at the back of the resort
- Great gift shop variety
- Friendly staff throughout
- Being able to connect your own streaming services to the room TV
What We Didn’t Love About Disney’s Hollywood Hotel
- No supermarket anywhere near the resort
- No Disney Town-style precinct like most other Disney resorts
- The on-site dining is expensive (the buffet especially)
Why Stay At An Official Disney Hotel?
Unlike Tokyo Disney Resort, there aren’t a huge number of perks exclusive to the official hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland. There is no early entry equivalent that we’re aware of (we paid for early entry passes instead), but the shuttle bus access makes the experience smoother than staying off-site, particularly if you’re planning multiple park days.
It also means if you are visiting Hong Kong Disneyland with smaller kids or just run out of steam, you can pop back to the hotel for a nap or swim in the afternoon then head back into the park for fireworks.
Other Accommodation Options Near Hong Kong Disneyland
Other Disney Hotels:
- Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel – the more upscale of the two official hotels, Victorian-inspired design, higher price point but a more luxurious experience
- Disney Explorers Lodge – mid-range with a jungle vibe
Off-site options:
- Auberge Discovery Bay Hotel – 4-star resort with pool and on-site dining
Staying in central Hong Kong (Kowloon or Hong Kong Island) and commuting via the MTR is a completely practical option for a Hong Kong Disneyland trip.
The Disney Resort Line is easy and the journey from the city is manageable. You would just be adding some travel time on park days, but if you are staying right near an MRT station or happy to catch a taxi or rideshare, that will minimise the effort.
We did one mammoth full day in the park with early access (1 hour earlier) and stayed until after the fireworks so we wanted the quickest option for getting back to the hotel.
Our Verdict: Do We Recommend Disney’s Hollywood Hotel?
For a Hong Kong Disneyland trip, yes, we’d recommend it, and we’d stay here again without hesitation.
The rooms are basic but comfortable, the Marvel restaurant was a splurge highlight, the shuttle bus makes getting around effortless, and being on the resort adds a certain magic to the trip even when you’re just walking back from the park at the end of a long day.
The two things to go in knowing: there’s no supermarket nearby and you’re on Lantau Island, which is less built up than the rest of Hong Kong. For the purpose of Disney, that’s a completely acceptable trade-off. For the purpose of a broader Hong Kong trip, it’s worth factoring in.
It worked for us for the duration of our 5 days in Hong Kong since we also did a Lantau Island day tour to the Big Buddha and the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.
Come with snacks. Splurge on the Marvel restaurant. Enjoy being super close to Hong Kong Disneyland and you will enjoy your stay!
