Is A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package Worth It?

This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure

We booked a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package and it was easily one of the most expensive travel purchases we have made (aside from international flights). So was it worth it? We break down the costs and inclusions of Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages to help you decide if it’s the right thing for your Japan Disney experience!

When we started planning our dream visit to Japan, we knew Tokyo Disney Resort was near the top of the list. When you live in Australia, Disney trips are few and far between (if ever at all) and we’d pushed back our next USA visit, so Japan was suddenly top of our travel list, with a Disney trip included.

I’m someone who likes to be thrifty with our travel budget but still splurge on the things that matter most so I definitely did a lot of thinking about whether or not to book the Vacation Package for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea.

A Disney Vacation Package is never what you would call a budget vacation!

But some reasons make it worth booking one. We will go into those a little later. First, let’s cover off on the basics.

What Is A Disney Vacation Package?

A Tokyo Disney Vacation package is exactly how it sounds – a vacation package that combines accommodation and Disney park tickets.

There are similar options available at each of the Disney Resorts around the world. We can’t comment on the value of those, but we can give you some food for thought with our Disney Vacation Package review!

There are currently 3 different Disney Vacation Packages available at Tokyo Disney Resort.

  • Fantasy Springs: Enjoy Attractions
  • Fantasy Springs: Enjoy Attractions & More
  • Fantasy Springs: Enjoy Attractions Even More

They are available in either a 1-night, 2-day option or a 2-night, 3-day option with the exception of the last package which is 2 nights and 2 days park entry.

If you want to extend your stay, you either need to book back-to-back vacation packages or book your extra nights and park tickets separately.

There are also some other perks included.

What’s Included in a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package?

There are quite a few standard inclusions in a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package and then there are a few special inclusions that depend on when you are visiting.

Here’s the basics of what is included:

Accommodation

You can book a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package to stay at any of the hotels within Tokyo Disney Resort. Some of these hotels are luxury hotels and therefore it does make the cost of your vacation package much higher.

This is also the case for choosing a different room type with most of the Tokyo Disney hotels offering a standard room as well as upgraded room types or views.

Here are the current Tokyo Disney Resort hotels:

  • Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel – Luxury/Deluxe
  • Tokyo Disneyland Hotel – Deluxe
  • Disney Ambassador Hotel – Deluxe
  • Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta – Deluxe
  • Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel – Moderate
  • Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel – Value

Tip: Some of the hotels are in high demand and sell out much faster than others, so if you want a particular hotel for your stay, get in ASAP when the Disney Vacation Packages go on sale for your dates.

Park Tickets

All your entry tickets, express passes & good vouchers are in paper format

Your Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea entry tickets are also included with your Disney Vacation Package.

If you choose a 1-night package, this includes a 1-day pass for Disneyland and 1 day pass for DisneySea.

If you choose a 2-night package, you get a 2nd day entry in Tokyo DisneySea. There is not currently an option to change this, nor can you choose which day you visit which park.

Extra Benefits

The extra benefits are what sets the vacation package apart from a DIY hotel and ticket option.

There are currently 2 different variations on the Tokyo Disney Package. One includes extra priority passes, parade VIP viewing areas, character meets and greets and dining plans.

Express Ride Passes

enchanted tale of beauty and the beast ride at tokyo disneyland.
The Beauty and the Beast ride had an average 2-hour wait all day without express passes!

All vacation packages include several Disney Priority Access Passes – these are like the old fast passes and allow you to skip the queue.

When booking your vacation package, you can choose rides and times for these included passes (and you can alter them up until a week before your stay).

Hotel Breakfast

You will get an included breakfast at the hotel you are staying at for the number of nights you are staying, so 2 included breakfasts for a 2-night stay.

Happy Entry

All hotel guests are eligible for Happy Entry, which is a 15-minute early entry into the parks before other guests.

There are exceptions. Some hotels only allow Happy Entry into Tokyo Disneyland, while others only have Happy Entry into Tokyo DisneySea. This means we only had 1 Happy Entry on our 2-night stay. It’s also not available certain days of the year.

Unlimited Service Counter Drinks

You will receive beverage tickets for each person for free unlimited drinks from the service counters at certain park restaurants and cafes. This is for non-alcoholic drinks only, however, it does include some specialty drinks and from late 2024, it will include many bottled beverages also.

TIP: Try the apple tea soda! So good but only available at a select few restaurants!

Exclusive Merchandise

I’m a sucker for free gifts so if you’re the same, you will be happy to know that your Vacation Package does come with a couple of exclusive gifts.

You get one exclusive Vacation Package popcorn bucket per package – it’s a soft one that comes with one popcorn serving. It’s not as cool as the collectable popcorn buckets but it’s free…

Each person gets small Disney Vacation Package shoulder bags. These are the perfect size for a phone and for carrying your vacation package tickets, but they don’t fit much else.

You also get a gift voucher per person to redeem for an exclusive souvenir. There are 4 gifts to choose from and they are subject to change. At the time of our visit, these were the original goods available:

  • A clip on Mickey Mouse stuffed toy
  • Light up bracelets
  • A fold-out sitting pad
  • A baby toy

Fantasy Springs 1-Day Passport

The other thing currently included in all vacation packages (and one of the main reasons we booked ours) is a 1-day Fantasy Springs passport. This special ticket gets you entry for a full day in the new Fantasy Springs area of Tokyo DisneySea with unlimited express lane rides on Fantasy Springs attractions.

We loved the Frozen ride in Fantasy Springs.

At the time of this review, the 1-day passport was approximately AUD 200 per person. Ouch!

What Is Not Included In A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package?

It’s also worth knowing what you don’t get included in your vacation package cost:

Food and Beverages

  • While some packages may include dining plans, most meals and snacks outside of included dining options are not covered. Dining reservations at specific restaurants may also need to be booked separately.

Souvenirs and Merchandise

  • Any purchases made within the parks, such as souvenirs, clothing, or snacks, are not included in the package price.

Special Experiences

  • Upgrades or add-ons, such as character dining experiences, special tours, or VIP experiences, often require additional fees and are not included in standard packages.

Disney Resort Line Tickets

  • If you are staying at a hotel that requires you to catch the Disney Resort Line monorail, surprisingly, there is no pass included in your vacation package. You need to pay for each trip (or for a day pass).

How Much Is A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package?

As you can imagine, this is a difficult question to answer since each vacation package will be slightly different, depending on the dates you want to visit, the hotel you choose and the number of people in your family or group.

However, we will do our best to give you a thorough cost breakdown and comparison between booking a package vs booking separately.

tokyo disney resort booking website.

Comparing Package Prices vs. Booking Separately

For quick reference, our 2N, 3D Disney Vacation Package staying at the mid-range Toy Story Hotel cost approximately AUD 4200 (which at the time was around 430,000 yen and USD 2800). We got in when the exchange rate was great but it has since dropped.

For this comparison, we put together the current costs (based on random dates) for a 2 night, 3 day Enjoy Attractions package staying at Toy Story Hotel, with no bed share, for a family of 4. This was also a mid-week package which means cheaper prices than weekends or during school holidays.

As you can see, there is a significant price difference between the vacation package total of ¥429,600 and the DIY Disney trip of booking each of these things ourselves, at ¥304,800.

That’s a huge price difference of ¥124,800!

We kept the figures in Yen to help with different currency conversions, but for reference, at the time of writing, that is around AUD $1240 or UDS $831 more expensive to book a vacation package. Yikes!

What isn’t considered though, are the extra perks – you get to book experiences and restaurants much earlier than the general public and vacation packages open earlier than general hotel bookings to secure those in demand hotels like Fantasy Springs.

There’s also the exclusive merchandise, and unlimited drinks package (non-alcoholic).

tokyo disney vacation package cost comparison table.

The one thing you can’t put a price on, which was what made us happy to pay the extra, is the convenience.

Tokyo Disney holiday planning can be stressful because of the huge crowds and mammoth wait times. The package took the stress out of planning. We did everything we wanted to and did not spend more than 20 minutes lined up for a single attraction.

Pros of Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages

  • Convenience of Booking
  • Included Express Passes and Special Entry Tickets
  • All-in-One Pricing
  • Exclusive Perks and Merchandise
  • Earlier Access To Dining Reservations
  • Guaranteed Entry Into Fantasy Springs
  • Happy Entry

Cons of Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages

  • Limited Flexibility in Itinerary
  • Upfront Costs vs. Pay-as-You-Go
  • Higher Prices Compared to Offsite Hotels

Is A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package Worth It?

Yes and no. A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package is worth it if you are planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip AND it’s within your budget to spend the extra that it costs.

If you’re unlikely to do this trip again or you’re visiting at the busiest time of year, it can make the experience much easier.

The other big reason why it could be worth it for you to splurge on the Vacation Package is if there’s some special event that you might not have otherwise been guaranteed entry to.

At the time of our visit, it was only a few months after the opening of Fantasy Springs at Disney Sea and the hype around this attraction and the rides within the new land were going to be crazy bananas and hard to get passes for. The Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Packages included this pass and was the deciding factor for us.

How Does A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package Compare To Other Disney Vacation Packages?

We have never done another Disney Vacation Package at other Disney Parks, so we don’t have anything to compare it to personally. On our previous visit to Disneyland Resort in California, we stayed at a Good Neighbour hotel and got a 3-day pass.

What we have done recently is a Disney Cruise, aboard the Disney Wonder on their first Australia and New Zealand season. This was a similar price of around $4700 for an outside cabin for 3 nights, however, a cruise does include all your meals.

Was our Disney Cruise worth it? Absolutely!

When Is A Tokyo Disney Vacation Package Not Worth The Cost?

If the package is outside of your budget and you’re already stretching your budget just to cover the cost of your park tickets, don’t splurge on the package.

Instead, book your tickets on a site such as Klook (who sometimes have special discounts at certain times of the year) and stay somewhere affordable and budget-friendly instead.

While Tokyo can be an expensive city to find accommodation, there are still plenty of cheaper options available. That rules out the Disney Resort hotels though.

Instead, jump on public transport and line up early. As soon as you get in the gate, use any of the express ticket options to try and book the special attractions you really want to experience and just make the best of it.

Is A Vacation Package Right for Your Family?

front of Toy Story Hotel in tokyo.
We loved staying at the Toy Story Hotel

One of the biggest considerations, aside from whether the cost of the vacation package is in your budget, is your family size.

The majority of the Disney Resort hotels have a maximum capacity of only 4 people per room.

The exception is up to 5 people at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and up to 6 people at the Disney Ambassador Hotel. There are only a few of these room types though, and they are in high demand! They also come with additional cost.

Another thing to consider is whether you prefer flexible travel or a structured itinerary.

A Disney package might not be best for your family if you’ve got young kids who need breaks during the day, since you might miss some of your express time slots. Sometimes flexibility is better suited to a lot of people.

Alternatives to Tokyo Disney Vacation Packages

If you’re considering a trip to Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea but aren’t sure whether a vacation package is the best option, there are several alternatives that might suit your budget, travel style, and preferences better.

Staying at an offsite hotel near Tokyo Disney Resort can be a more affordable alternative to the official Disney hotels included in vacation packages.

Many nearby hotels offer free shuttle services to and from the parks, making it easy to access Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea without the added cost of staying directly on Disney property.

You can also stay elsewhere in Tokyo and commute via the Tokyo Metro. The Disney Resort Line Monorail has a stop at Maihama Station which is 1 or 2 stops from the two Disney Parks in the Tokyo Resort area.

If you don’t have 2 days to dedicate to Disneyland, you might also choose just one of the parks. We’ve put together a guide on which to choose – Tokyo Disneyland vs Tokyo DisneySea in this situation.

Final Thoughts – Tokyo Disney Vacation Package Review

us at Tokyo Disneyland.

For convenience and the inclusion of the Fantasy Springs Magic Passport, we are glad we chose to do the vacation package vs the DIY option in this situation. It was kinda awesome to feel like VIPs, and we loved staying in Andy’s Room at Toy Story Hotel!

If this is a trip of a lifetime or you’re a Disney fanatic, a Tokyo Disney Vacation Package is worth it.

However, if we visit again, we will do a DIY version and stay either at a Disney Resort hotel (just to experience another one) or one of the neighbouring hotels and buy our Disney ticket entry separately, possibly splurging on a couple of premier access express passes.

We know this is a lot of information, but we hope this guide has helped you make your own decision.
