What Is A Babymoon?
A babymoon is a relaxing getaway taken by an expectant couple before their new baby arrives.
It’s the perfect time to relax and reconnect as a couple, away from all the stresses associated with preparing for a baby. And to cherish some romantic time together before their family dynamic changes too.
Things To Consider Before Booking A Babymoon
Before you book your Aussie babymoon, there are a few things that are worthwhile considering.
First and foremost, make sure you check with your doctor that it’s ok for you to travel during pregnancy.
Secondly, consider the distance of your destination from home and plan accordingly – this means considering flight times or drive times, keeping in mind that long periods of sitting still might be uncomfortable, depending on the stage of your pregnancy.
The second trimester is usually the most comfortable time to travel.
Finally, choose destinations that aren’t too remote. You want to be comfortable and within a reasonable distance from medical facilities in case of any complications. This is especially important if you opt to take your babymoon later in your pregnancy.
Best Babymoon Destinations In Australia
If you want to enjoy a babymoon in Australia, there are plenty of glorious options that offer both relaxation and adventure.
From beachside escapes to mountain retreats, nature walks and food tours, or city getaways with shopping and sightseeing, there’s absolutely a perfect Australia babymoon for you.
Here are 15 of the best babymoon destinations Australia:
Cairns
Cairns is one of the best places to visit the Great Barrier Reef and is perfectly located to explore the Daintree Rainforest.
It’s one of our favourite destinations in Australia, especially if you do want to have a slightly active babymoon, taking a few day trips from Cairns.
While you won’t have glorious beaches to swim at, you will have beautiful weather all year round. Being pregnant, you will definitely want to avoid the wet season over summer when it’s extremely hot and humid, with tropical storms.
A babymoon in Cairns is a perfect way to chase some winter sun and enjoy some warm days. If you don’t have your own car, there are day trips to all the most popular attractions.
Our favourites are the Daintree, Paronella Park and Green Island.
While snorkelling isn’t recommended while pregnant, you can swim with marine life right off the beach at Green Island and take a glass-bottom boat tour to experience the Great Barrier Reef safely.
Recommended Babymoon Accommodation In Cairns
There are plenty of great accommodation in Cairns. For a luxury stay, check out Pullman Reef Hotel Casino. Or for a boutique hotel stay with a contemporary design, check out Crystalbrook Flynn.
For a fun alternative, book a couple of nights at Green Island Resort, the closest island to Cairns. The ecoresort could use an upgrade but Green Island itself is a beautiful place to spend a couple of days.
Hamilton Island
Hamilton Island is the perfect babymoon destination in Australia! If you are looking for luxury babymoon destinations, Hamilton Island often comes to mind for many people wanting a romantic island escape.
With white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, including the beautiful Catseye Beach, lined with palm trees. This is one of the main beaches on Hamilton Island, where many of the resorts are located.
If you’re keen to splurge, don’t miss your chance to take a tour of the Heart Reef! This famous heart-shaped coral reef in the Great Barrier Reef can be viewed by seaplane or helicopter.
The other must-do is a day trip to Whitehaven Beach, the gem of the Whitsundays.
The best thing about Hamilton Island is that you can stay at a luxury 5-star adults-only accommodation if you want to really splurge for your babymoon package!
Recommended Babymoon Hamilton Island Accommodation
Beach Club is a 5-star adult-only resort on Hamilton Island, with scenic views of the Coral Sea. Alternatively, Reef View Hotel is located directly across from Catseye Beach so you will be close to the activity
Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is a popular family travel destination, but it can also be a wonderful place for a couple’s escape. After all, it is home to some stunning golden beaches and national parks.
We actually had our second babymoon to the Gold Coast, although it was more of a family moon, with a toddler in tow.
We stayed at one of our favourite Gold Coast family resorts, Sea World Resort and visited theme parks… not your typical relaxing babymoon, but a really special time as a family of 3 before our youngest was born.
If it’s a relaxed Gold Coast babymoon you’re looking for though, there are plenty of luxurious resorts, fine dining and natural attractions to enjoy.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is well worth considering too with mountain retreats and rainforests to explore. Especially if visiting during the cooler months when beaches aren’t a top priority.
Recommended Babymoon Gold Coast Accommodation
You’ve got plenty of options for accommodation on the Gold Coast, from budget to luxury. For a central location, the highly rated 5-star Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise has stunning ocean views.
Alternatively, check out the beachfront 5-start The Langham, Gold Coast and Jewel Residences for breathtaking views.
Sunshine Coast
While we do love visiting the Gold Coast, when it comes to beach trips, the Sunshine Coast is definitely my favourite of the two when it comes to beautiful beaches.
The Sunshine Coast and the hinterland area both have so much to offer and the beaches are some of the best in Australia. It’s also home to famous Aussie attractions such as Australia Zoo and Eumundi Markets, which make for great day trips.
Noosa is a great place for couples looking for an intimate babymoon getaway, with boutique hotels, stunning views, beachfront dining and spas. Or if you’re feeling energetic there are hikes nearby that aren’t too strenuous.
Mooloolaba is a good option if you want to be close to the action with shopping, restaurants and attractions. Otherwise, Coolum has some of the most beautiful Sunny Coast beaches.
Recommended Sunshine Coast Babymoon Accommodation
The Sunshine Coast is huge with lots of different areas to stay, so it all depends if you want to be close to the beach or prefer a more hinterland experience. Breeze Mooloolaba is in the heart of Mooloolaba.
Or check out Altitude on Montville for a highly-rated 5-star hinterland experience.
Port Douglas
Port Douglas is only an hour from Cairns, but worth a mention of its own.
While Cairns is a great option for North Queensland if you want to have plenty of attractions, dining options and activities nearby, Port Douglas is often favoured for the more relaxed North Queensland escapes.
Port Douglas is still a great option for Great Barrier Reef and Daintree day trips, you will also find some great beach resorts, spas and restaurants.
A day trip to Cape Tribulation is a must! And morning beach walks, of course!
Recommended Port Douglas Babymoon Accommodation
There’s an abundance of beach resorts in Port Douglas. Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort is the only resort on the famous Four Mile Beach.
Otherwise, nearby Peppers Beach Club is a beautiful resort just 250 metres from the beach.
Brisbane
If it’s a city escape you’re looking for, we may be biased, but Brisbane is a great option and a lot more relaxed than the bigger cities of Sydney and Melbourne.
Brisbane offers incredible riverside dining and activities, as well as a variety of shopping and entertainment options. There are always plenty of fun things to do in Brisbane, even on a rainy day.
Brisbane is situated in the middle of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, making it accessible to the many beaches and attractions.
The Southbank Parklands are always a hub of activity with weekend markets, dining, cinemas and ferry terminals to take you beyond the city centre.
One of our favourite stops is Eat Street Northshore which is a huge international food market that takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
Recommended Brisbane Babymoon Accommodation
Staying near Southbank Parklands is a good choice, with Emporium Hotel just 400 metres from the parklands. The rooms each have views over Brisbane River and the city or Mount Coot-tha.
Or stay where many of your favourite celebs have stayed when in Brisbane, at Stamford Plaza, right on the riverfront or The Calile Hotel in Fortitude Valley. You might be sleeping where Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift previously slept!
Magnetic Island
For another Far North Queensland babymoon destination, Magnetic Island is a popular choice!
Located off the coast of Townsville, Magnetic Island can be reached by ferry and is well known for its stunning beaches, walking trails, water activities and wildlife.
Take it slow and simply relax with your partner. There’s plenty of accommodation from more budget-friendly hotels to luxury resorts and you’ll find all sorts of activities to keep you entertained during your stay.
To top off your babymoon experience, why not visit one of the many spas for a prenatal massage or pamper session?
Recommended Magnetic Island Babymoon Accommodation
Stay in a self-contained bungalow at Island Leisure Resort, just 50 metres from the beach or Sails On Horseshoe, which is located right on beautiful Horseshoe Bay. There are also some lovely holiday homes too.
Sydney
Want to go on a shopping spree, watch a performance at the Sydney Opera House or wander around Taronga Zoo? Sydney has a lot to offer those of you looking for a city babymoon destination.
Stay close to the action in Darling Harbour with restaurants and attractions on your doorstep and just a short walk from Circular Quay where you can catch a ferry to one of the many popular spots nearby.
Splurge with a Sydney Harbour Bridge view from your hotel and enjoy each other’s company as you celebrate your expanding family.
Recommended Sydney Babymoon Accommodation
When it comes to finding a little inner-city luxury, Sydney has got you covered! Four Seasons Hotel has harbour views, some with views of the Opera House too. This is definitely a splurge option!
One of the newer options, also boasting harbour views is Crown Towers Sydney. This luxurious hotel has an infinity pool, day spa and private cabanas.
Blue Mountains
If beaches, hot weather and swollen ankles don’t sound really appealing to you, why not go for a cooler climate option instead and visit one of Australia’s most famous mountain ranges?
The Blue Mountains are less than 90 minutes from Sydney, so a rental car is ideal, but you can also get there by train.
Enjoy a few days in the great outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and lush green forests.
One of the most popular attractions in the Blue Mountains is Scenic World, where you can ride the sky rail, cable car and the world’s steepest passenger train. It sounds a lot more wild than it is but there are also many walking tracks and stunning vantage points too.
Just take care on the drive from Sydney. Those windy roads can be rough on sensitive stomachs… even when you’re not pregnant!
Recommended Blue Mountains Babymoon Accommodation
We adore Fairmont Resort & Spa in Leura, with a heated indoor pool, sprawling gardens and great breakfast.
Alternatively, check out Falls Mountain Retreat, just 10 minutes from Katoomba in Wentworth Falls. Each room has its own fireplace and spa bath.
In case you’re babymooning with kids (it happens), check out the best Blue Mountains family accommodation.
Byron Bay
For a little coastal luxury just over the New South Wales border, Byron Bay offers a unique holiday experience. It’s known for its stunning beaches, surf culture and spectacular sunsets – but it’s just as popular for a laidback romantic babymoon too.
There is something very relaxing about being in Byron Bay!
Get brunch at The Farm Byron Bay, nourish your body with fresh juice and smoothies, walk barefoot in the wet sand and indulge in a relaxing pregnancy massage at a day spa.
Plus it’s barely an hour from the Gold Coast or Yamba, giving you plenty of nearby places to explore!
Recommended Byron Bay Babymoon Accommodation
Choose from a Byron resort such as Crystalbrook Byron, set in a rainforest. Here you can soothe your body and soul with daily yoga classes and walking trails.
Or book a private villa at Elements Of Byron, on the absolute beachfront of Belongil Beach.
Lord Howe Island
Lord Howe Island is a beautiful tropical paradise that is perfect for a romantic babymoon in Australia.
Whether you’re into swimming, fishing, beach walks or just looking to relax on one of its stunning beaches, this island has something for every expectant couple.
The laidback lifestyle and abundance of wildlife, including seabird colonies, that makes it the ideal destination to unwind before your new bundle of joy arrives!
Lord Howe Island isn’t the cheapest island escape but if you’re looking to treat yourselves, this small island will make for a memorable trip.
There are only 400 tourists maximum able to visit the island at any time, making it feel a little more private than some of the other destinations.
There’s a good reason National Geographic named Lord Howe Island one of the most beautiful places in the world!
Recommended Lord Howe Island Babymoon Accommodation
While there aren’t a lot of options on Lord Howe Island due to the tourist cap, you can’t go wrong with Lorhiti Apartments. Private beach access to Ned’s Beach and a personal balcony.
Great Ocean Road Trip
If you love a road trip, you can’t pass up the chance to drive Australia’s most famous road trip route. Although, these roads do get a bit windy at times so a Great Ocean Road trip might not be ideal if you’re suffering bad morning sickness still.
But if you’re fine in the car, it truly is a memorable experience for the Aussie bucket list!
Take your time and drive the Great Ocean Road over 4 days or more so you can stop and enjoy the highlights.
Port Campbell is a great spot to spend a night, close to all the big attractions, including the Twelve Apostles and our favourites, Loch Ard Gorge and Gibsons Steps.
A road trip isn’t quite as relaxing as most of the other trips on this list, but if adventure travel is your vibe and you’re feeling up for it, why not!
Recommended Great Ocean Road Babymoon Accommodation
There are a lot of accommodation options along the Great Ocean Road and where you stay really depends on where you plan to stop and how many days you are doing your drive over.
Check out Great Ocean Road Resort in Anglesea or Cumberland Lorne Resort.
Kangaroo Island
Take a trip to South Australia and Kangaroo Island! Kangaroo Island is chock full of wonderful native animals, like koalas and kangaroos that you can observe in their natural habitat.
Most of the island is protected in nature reserves.
See sea lion and penguin colonies and visit the natural rock formations of Remarkable Rocks and stalactite-covered Admirals Arch.
On top of all the wildlife, there are plenty of great hikes to explore too, if you’re keen on a more active babymoon adventure.
Kangaroo Island is a perfect way to spend a shorter babymoon that is sure to be memorable and unique.
Recommended Kangaroo Island Babymoon Accommodation
Check out Villas On The Bay Kingscote or one of the many vacation rentals on the island.
Tasmania
From breathtaking national parks to secluded beaches, Tasmania is the perfect destination for a romantic and tranquil getaway before your little one arrives! Explore Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay.
Spend a couple of nights at a mountain lodge with a fireplace in Cradle Mountain.
Or do as we did and take a road trip around Tasmania. We absolutely adored our Tasmania trip. We spent 3 days in Hobart and then looped up to Launceston via Strahan and Cradle Mountain, but there were a lot of places we didn’t get to see too.
The only downfall, those windy roads are horrible for morning sickness! Make sure you go prepared. I was past the stage of having bad morning sickness, into my second trimester, but being prone to motion sickness brought it all back. Ginger tablets were my new best friend!
I was able to enjoy a Tasman Island wilderness cruise and a Port Arthur day trip with a ginger tablet and it remains one of my favourite days we have spent in our home country still to this day!
Recommended Tasmania Babymoon Accommodation
Since we’ve added an entire state for this one, there’s a lot of accommodation options. Peppers Silo in Launceston or The Henry Joes Art Hotel in Hobart are perfect for luxury city stays.
Or enjoy a secluded stay at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village or in your own chalet at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge. Perfect for winter babymoons in Australia!
Margaret River
You might be thinking it’s a little strange to be adding a famous winery region to the list, but trust me, Margaret River is so much more than world-class wine! That’s a nice bonus, but it is also one of the most beautiful regions for natural attractions in Western Australia.
From lighthouses to cave tours, delicious food and fresh produce, and some of the most breathtaking beaches in Western Australia. Margaret River is a surprising gem and quite romantic too.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the Margaret River Co Chocolate Factory. Some sweet treats are a must for your babymoon indulgences.
Margaret River is around 2 hours from Perth. You can easily base yourself in Busselton too and ride the train along the longest wooden pile jetty in the Southern Hemisphere while you’re there!
Recommended Margaret River Babymoon Accommodation
There is some beautiful luxury accommodation in Margaret River. Prideau’s Of Margaret River is popular for couples and centrally located.
Losari Retreat is a short drive from town but sits on the edge of a national park, each room with a hot tub and private patio.

If you’re looking for the best babymoon destinations close to Australia and are open to travelling abroad, there are some pretty amazing places just as within reach from Australia as many of the places in our top babymoon list!
Depending on where you’re located, it is just a few hours flight from Australia to some of these best destinations.
New Zealand
New Zealand is one of our favourite winter destinations. Especially the South Island. But you can easily spend a long weekend in Auckland and enjoy a city stay instead.
Mountains, stunning blue lakes, natural attractions, or even Hobbiton if you’re a Lord of the Rings fan! New Zealand has plenty to offer expectant parents on a babymoon!
Bali
For a tropical destination that is kind on your budget, Bali is always a good option worth considering. Get a private villa with a plunge pool, often for a fraction of the cost of a similar luxury hotel here in Australia.
Fiji
We visited Fiji for our honeymoon and it would make an equally beautiful babymoon destination! Many of the luxury resorts have their own private beaches and luxurious rooms, local produce and the friendliest people you will ever meet.
