Sometimes it’s great to escape for a day, without going so far and there are some places that can really transform you into thinking you have travelled much further than you actually have. One of these places not so far from us is Mt Tamborine, located in the Gold Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia.
Mt Tamborine is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. It’s little wonder though since Mt Tamborine feels a little bit like you have been transported to Europe. From European inspired architecture to cultural cuisine, Mt Tamborine could easily be known as ‘Little Europe’.
While the stunning views of the Gold Coast Hinterland are worth it enough to visit, along with the rainforests and fresh mountain air, there is so much about Mt Tamborine to love. But one of our favourite reasons to visit is to experience some of the things we loved so much from our travels through Europe.
Mt Tamborine: A Taste of Europe
The Polish Place
If you are a fan of Polish food, luxury chalet accommodation and amazing views, this is a great place to visit. The Polish Place Restaurant and Accommodation is like stepping into Poland, minus the cold weather (unless you are visiting in winter, when even the Gold Coast Hinterland can get a little chilly).
The Polish Place offers the perfect romantic getaway, with wooden chalets overlooking mountain views. They are a little on the pricy side but very much emulate the traditional Polish architectural style. Plus you can duck across to the restaurant for some popular options of must try Polish food. Pierogi, bigos, golonka and plenty more. The restaurant is decorated with lots of Polish ornaments and displays too, for that authentic vibe.
They also have a more than impressive drinks menu with 4 pages of vodka plus all the best imported Polish beers. Find out more on their website.
The Bavarian Grill Haus
Located in North Tamborine, The Bavarian Grill Haus is another foodie delight – with a Bavarian Bier Cafe, restaurant and a wine cellar door, it caters to fans of food and drink. With many similarities to traditional Polish food, you can also enjoy German favourites such as schnitzel and meatloaf. They also offer up some more western style dishes such as pizza if you are after something lighter.

The Bavarian Grill Haus also offers winery tours, with pick up from Gold Coast and Brisbane locations. You can learn more on their website.
Stonehaven Guest House
If it’s a Scottish manor you are looking for, Stonehaven Guest House in North Tamborine has you covered. The manor is set in lush tropical rainforest, with a pond and creek attracting local wildlife. The rooms have a little taste of Scottish luxury with king size beds and double spas.
This is an adult only accommodation though, so if you want to step into your own Scotland inspired adventure, you will need to leave the kids behind. You can check out their website for more.
Bungunyah Manor Resort
If you are craving a little French fancy, don’t let its Aboriginal name mislead you – Bungunyah Manor Resort will recreate the Victorian era in its manor-style accommodation, with queen size beds, private balcony and fireplace.
However, it is the Jacques Manor Restaurant that will really make you feel like you have stepped into France, serving up classical French cuisine. Before you dine you may wish to enjoy a drink at the Manor Bar, in front of the log fireplace.
Villa Della Rosa
With a tagline ‘Tuscany on the Mountain’, you will get a real taste of the Mediterranean at Villa Della Rosa Bed and Breakfast. Each of the three villa style rooms have spa baths for a little bit of added romance, all decorated with Mediterranean style furnishings. Check out their website for more info.
Clancy’s Irish Pub
If you are looking for hearty Irish food with a modern Aussie twist, Clancy’s Irish pub delivers. They have an extensive menu and super fast dining service. Enjoy the Irish pub vibe indoors, or sit out in the fresh air and share a meal with friends on the deck. Clancy’s is somewhere we have been visiting on and off on visits to Mt Tambourine for the past 15 years. Check out their website for the menu and events.
If Europe is too far away, or you are simply looking for a reminder of some of the European delights you have come to love, Mt Tamborine has plenty of offer to give you a little taster, complete with fresh mountain air, rainforests, great views and plenty of activities the whole family will enjoy.
